Tributes to 'caring' motorcyclist killed in crash

Wyn Roberts was an "extremely kind and caring man" his family say

The family of a man who died in a collision this week have described him as "a true gentleman".

Wyn Roberts, 79, died after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Peugeot Partner panel van on the A65, between Whinney Mire Lane and Green Lane, Ingleton, on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Roberts died at the scene despite the efforts of members of the public and the emergency services, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force is continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, to contact them.

In a statement, Mr Roberts' family said he had been an "extremely kind and caring man" who was "selfless in his energies to the community, family and friends".

"He was an expert in archery, sailing and an exceptional craftsman and woodworker, he was renowned for teaching and mentoring these skills to all, in various settings including Scouting and schools," they added.

The family added anyone could rely on his "support and expertise".

"A true gentleman, he was extremely generous in his outlook, taking great joy in seeing others succeed – with boundless energy he was quick to lend a hand and first to help. With many interests and an extremely practical man, he also loved sea fishing, motorbiking, shooting and his spaniel Tigger."

They said Mr Roberts was from nearby Clapham and "was a centrepiece in the local community" and would be "sorely missed".
