Bus routes have been changed after a weight limit was imposed on a busy bridge.

Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes have been banned from crossing Oxford's Donnington Bridge while the structure's condition is assessed.

Andrew Gant, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said the authority was conscious of the disruption the move would cause.

"We’ll be guided by the experts in terms of what happens next and we will keep the public fully informed," he added.

Further details, including changes to city centre stopping arrangements, will be announced by bus companies in the area.

Upcoming inspections, tests, and remote monitoring will determine future decisions on the weight limit and action to remedy the structure of the bridge.
