A man has been charged with escaping from a prison van, which was travelling to court.

Jamie Cooper has been charged with escaping from lawful custody after he allegedly fled the vehicle on the M55 while travelling to Lancaster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 33-year-old was arrested in the town on Saturday, after a car which had travelled from Bolton was stopped.

Lancashire Police said they received a report of an alleged escape near junction two of the M55, near Preston, at about 08:55 GMT on Wednesday.
