Work to begin on new sixth-form centre

Work is about to begin to turn a town's former council offices into a sixth-form centre.
Telford and Wrekin Council's previous site, Addenbrooke House in the town's Station Quarter, will undergo a major transformation.
The centre will be part of Telford College, which will expand its choice of A-Levels and will also include science labs, a drama studio and a library.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, cabinet member for children, young people, education, employment and skills, said it was due to open in September 2026.
"Telford College will be offering existing and new A-Level courses at the centre when it opens in September 2026, giving students a wider choice of qualifications and the skills and knowledge to secure future careers in different sectors, which will lead to a bright future," she said.
The centre will sit alongside The Quad, a digital skills hub that opened in September 2024.
"We are really excited to see this project start to take shape alongside The Quad – creating an excellent academic campus in the heart of Telford and establishing Telford town centre as the place to gain qualifications, learn new skills and secure great careers," she added.
Telford College said the central location and proximity to public transport hubs would make its A-Level facilities more accessible, as more than 500 people travel outside the borough for A-Level education.
The Station Quarter project also includes the redevelopment of the Wellington conservation area and Wellington Market, as well as the remodelling of Telford Theatre in Oakengates.
