Police are looking for two young children who may have been involved in a car crash.

Sunday's collision on Masefield Road in Hartlepool involved a black Audi A4 and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van.

Cleveland Police believes the children were passengers in the Audi when it crashed, but said they were not present when officers arrived at the scene.

A 50-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the van, suffered serious injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The children are believed to be of nursery or primary school age, but the force said it had not received any reports from parents or carers.

Officers want to identify them to make sure they are safe and "not in need of medical attention".

"We are still conducting enquiries to identify the driver of the black Audi and the two children in the vehicle," said a force spokesperson.

Three men, aged 63, 32 and 30, have been arrested and released on bail while the investigation continues.
