Residents are celebrating after their community hub opened following a major revamp which cost £3m.

The charity Master Park Pavilion Charity, which runs the Park Hub in Master Park Oxted, says the facility serves as an "important gathering place" for locals.

The Park Hub has a cafe, accessible public facilities and spaces for residents to attend wellbeing classes, workshops, private functions and other social activities.

Chairperson Pammy McNaughton said: "It has been a mammoth effort and we are absolutely thrilled the Park Hub is finally open to the public.

"We've had to jump through many hurdles, but it's all worth it because the hub helps foster community wellbeing and builds connections."

Ms McNaughton said in 2023, Surrey County Council approved £1.86m in funding while Tandridge District Council provided £500,000.

She said the charity carried on fundraising "tirelessly" to gather sufficient funds to realise their vision.

"We want to thank all our supporters, donors and the councils who helped make this happen," she added.

Jenny Russell, who lives near Lingfield, runs pilates sessions at the Park Hub.

She told the BBC: "The hub is such a convenient place because it's hard to find a space in the area to host my classes.

"It's been Pammy's vision and we're so pleased that Park Hub is finally opened.

"The hub is beneficial for locals, it's a great place for every one to meet and catch up. It's a community-spirited place."

According to the charity, the existing building was constructed in 1967 before its major revamp.
