A drink driver has been bailed after being caught speeding while more than four times over the drink drive limit.

Nerijus Kavaliunas was travelling in a Volkswagen Polo at a speed of 96mph on the M4 early on New Year's Day when he was stopped by police.

He failed a breath test at the scene - recording more than four times the legal limit - and was charged with drink driving and speeding.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, he was given unconditional bail until his sentencing hearing, which is due to take place in early February.

Mr Kavaliunas, 34, of Borodin Close, Basingstoke, was travelling with two passengers when he was stopped just after 02:00 GMT by Wiltshire Police.

Having failed a breath test, his vehicle was seized and all three occupants were transported to Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Following Thursday's appearance, he has received an interim disqualification from driving, before sentencing on Thursday 6 February.
