Four people - including two police officers - were taken to hospital after a collision involving a car and a police vehicle on a 999 call.

Merseyside Police said the crash happened at about 13:50 BST on Wednesday on Edge Lane in Liverpool.

A force spokeswoman said the driver and passenger of a Citroen were taken to hospital "with serious but not life-threatening or life-changing injuries" while the police officers were taken to hospital to be checked for minor injuries caused by their vehicle's airbags being activated.

She confirmed the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
