A new mental health hospital for women has opened in north Staffordshire, with the company behind it saying more than 100 jobs have been created.

Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove has 31 beds and "will support women to receive emergency mental health support and specialist rehabilitation".

The opening has brought 105 new jobs to the Kidsgrove area, including clinical, nursing and administrative roles, Cygnet said.

The new service on Boathorse Road, which was officially opened earlier, has one ward for acute admissions and another providing space for a specialised personality disorder service.

Cygnet, which was set up in 1988, said it had developed health and social care services for young people and adults with mental health needs, acquired brain injuries, eating disorders, autism and learning disabilities.

Hospital manager Wiston Magunda, said the organisation was "determined to play its part in ensuring people get access to the right treatment, at the right time".

"The hospital will help keep women from the West Midlands closer to home and bring care and treatment closer to their family and friends," he said.
