Daytime closures are in place on a major route connecting the Manx capital with the north of the Isle of Man while road studs are installed.

The A2 road between Ramsey and Onchan Coast Road will be closed from 09:30 to 16:30 GMT on weekdays until 7 March for the replacement of the reflective studs.

Traffic between the two areas will be diverted onto the A18 Mountain Road during the period, which will also see new centre lines painted.

Emergency services, scheduled bus services, pedestrians and vehicles requiring access to and from properties will be able to use the coast road during the closures.

The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said if the main diversion via the A18 needed to closed during the period, the coast road work would be paused to allow that route to remain open.

The DOI said the current studs were "generally in poor condition and have become ineffective over time".

Road studs would be installed on sections of the road that were not subject to 20mph (32km/h) or 30mph (48km/h) speed limits.

Being carried out by Manx Rock Ltd, the works will begin on the stretch of road between Ballure and the Dremskerry Road junction before moving incrementally towards Onchan.

The DOI said poor weather could cause delays to the works as wet or very cold conditions could cause lead the adhesive used to set the studs in place to fail.

In those circumstances the closure would be lifted until work could be undertaken but but time for weather delays had been factored into the length of the scheduled closure, the department added.
