The A63 eastbound will be closed on several weekends in January and February

Part of one of Hull's busiest roads will be closed again on several weekends in the new year as upgrade work is carried out.

The A63 will be shut eastbound between the Daltry Street flyover and Roger Millward Way for six consecutive weekends between Friday 12 January and Monday 19 February.

The disruption comes after several closures of the A63 before Christmas as part of long-running works to create an underpass.

National Highways, which is responsible for the upgrade, said the measures would allow it to get on with a "critical part" of the scheme.

Each closure of the 2.5 mile (4km) stretch would begin at 20:00 GMT on the affected Fridays and end at 06:00 GMT on the following Mondays, according to National Highways.

Completing the work on weekends would "allow lanes to be kept open on the A63 eastbound and slip roads during the peak weekday, daytime travelling hours", it added.
