The A38 Flyover in north Bristol has partially reopened

  • Published

A major north Bristol route partially reopened on Saturday, after its closure caused significant delays.

The A38 flyover in Filton was shut on 4 August by South Gloucestershire Council for extensive refurbishment.

Work was scheduled to be completed by 31 August but was delayed due to the late delivery of important parts, a councillor said.

Councillor Sean Rhodes added: "Things shifted and we have now been able to open the southbound carriageway on Saturday. We will check how it runs and plan to open the northbound section Monday night."

Sean looks at the camera. He is standing in a car park next to a payment meter, and a road with houses on it can be seen behind him. He has short grey hair, and wears a light brown suit with a blue and white checked shirt and a green lanyard.

Sean Rhodes said the delay was caused by a delivery problem

The closure of the road had caused "gridlock" in the surrounding area.

"We had a problem with the delivery of an expansion joint which caused the delay in reopening," Rhodes said.

In a Facebook statement, the council said it had to extend the works despite its "best efforts".
