Major gas main replacement works are underway and will continue for about three weeks.

Cadent has warned motorists that Fulbridge Road in Peterborough could be closed until 5 July while works are carried out.

The road has been closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

A spokesperson for Cadent thanked residents for their "understanding and patience".

The spokesperson said: “We carried out preparation work last week with the use of two-way traffic lights, but a closure does need to be installed so that our engineers can work safely to complete the work.

“Whenever we have to close a road, we work closely with the council to ensure that an appropriate diversion is put in place and signposted.

“We’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience as these works are completed."
