Decision over landfill site postponed

Developers want to build a landfill site on fields near Kennford on the outskirts of Exeter

A decision on a landfill site on the edge of Exeter that has been recommended for refusal has been postponed.

Devon County Council members had been due to approve or reject plans on Wednesday for a building waste landfill site near Kennford on the outskirts of Exeter.

The site is owned by the Taverner family who also own the Orange Elephant Ice Cream company with its landmark orange elephant by the side of the A38 Devon Expressway near the proposed landfill site.

Devon County Council said a decision would be put off until April "following a request by the applicant to submit further information".

The county planning manager had recommended rejecting the plans in a report that was due to be considered at the meeting planned for Wednesday.

The plans are now due to be discussed at the next Development Management Planning committee on 2 April.
