Three more arrests have been made as part of the investigation into the disorder in Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth.

A 33-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent and two 28-year-old men from Tamworth have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

All three remained in custody for questioning, Staffordshire Police said.

It takes the total number of people arrested for the two incidents to 43, and nine of those have been charged.

The disorder in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, broke out on 3 August with police officers coming under fire from missiles. Two were men left injured when they were hit by blunt objects.

Violence then broke out a day later at a Holiday Inn Express in Tamworth, where rioters were seen throwing petrol bombs at the site, which was said to have been housing asylum seekers.

The disorder across the country was sparked by online misinformation claiming that the suspect in the fatal stabbing of three girls in Southport on 29 July was a Muslim asylum seeker.
