Removing the fallen rocks could lead to further rockfall and landslips, National Highways said.

A road which has been partially closed following a landslip will remain so for the forseeable future.

The A40 at Ganarew in Herefordshire was blocked when heavy rainfall caused rocks to crash onto the carriageway on 9 February.

It partially re-opened on 18 February but one lane has remained shut due to the debris and a temporary 40mph speed limit has been imposed.

National Highways said a timeline for works would be released as soon as possible and added addressing the rockfall was a high priority.

Removing the fallen rocks could lead to further rockfall and landslips, it said.

Further surveys were needed before rocks could be cleared.

National Highways Head of Planning and Development, Victoria Lazenby, said patience while it works to solve the issue would be appreciated.

"This is a complex issue and the safety of road users and road workers is of paramount importance when considering the options."
