Two police officers were hurt when their vehicles were rammed by a van they had pursued for dangerous driving, a force has said.

The van overturned as it smashed into the pair of police vehicles in Ince, Wigan, on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously and under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The injured police officers were treated at the scene.

Specialist police drivers were sent to the Kendal Road area at about 07:40 BST to try and intercept the van after reports of dangerous driving, a force spokesman said.

The van had crashed into a number of public vehicles before it tried to ram police, the force said.

Efforts are underway to find a second man who was thought to be in the van, with police appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
