Firefighters have lifted a large elderly horse back on his feet after he fell in his stables overnight and was unable to stand back up.

Crews were able to pick the 28-year-old stallion up using animal rescue equipment, at Elm Lane, Roxwell, Essex, at 07:52 GMT on Friday morning, after the fall on Thursday night.

A vet was on hand to work alongside specially trained firefighters.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "Once back on his feet, he trotted off happily into the field and was left in the care of his owner."
