Two new community rangers are being employed to improve safety and tackle antisocial behaviour in Boston.

Chris Thornton and Marius Pascu will be part of a multi-agency team made up of officers and PCSOs from Lincolnshire Police and the community safety team.

It comes after the council said residents told them that “sometimes they do not feel safe in the town centre”.

Boston Borough Council leader councillor Anne Dorrian says their addition marked "a significant step forward” in efforts to address crime in the town.

The team will tackle four crime hotspots and areas of antisocial behaviour - Red Lion Street, Market Place, West Street and Central Park.

The project aims to add a presence on the streets, act as a deterrent and provide reassurance to residents.

'Create safer environment'

The rangers have been appointed following a successful application for grant funding from the Home Office.

Councillor Dorrian added: “We have listened to our residents and we want them to feel reassured by the presence of these additional officers.

“Our aim is to create a safer environment for all residents, workers and visitors.

“This reflects our commitment to ensuring that Boston remains a vibrant and secure place to live, work and enjoy."
