A man has been jailed for killing his ex-partner, a mother described as "funny, loving and caring".

William Brady, 56, fatally stabbed Pauline Sweeney at her home on Long Close Avenue, Coventry, on 20 March.

Warwick Crown Court heard Brady was seen outside the property by a neighbour crying and repeating: "I've killed her".

He pleaded guilty to murder on 19 September and was sentenced on Tuesday to a minimum of 19 years in jail before being eligible for parole.

The neighbour called police, who arrived and administered first aid, but Ms Sweeney died a short time later from her injuries.

Brady, also of Long Close Avenue, was arrested by officers and later charged with murder.

Warwickshire Police said no clear motive had been established for his attack.

The 50-year-old mother of seven was described by her children as "a beautiful person" who "made friends and memories everywhere she went".

"She had the kindest heart and no matter what she was going through she always had a smile on her face," their statement added.

"Nothing will ever help heal the pain of the way we lost our mother but we know she’s always watching over us."
