A suspected grenade found in the boot of a car has been detonated by an Army explosives team.
Merseyside Police called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit after the discovery on Strand Road in Bootle at about 13:10 GMT on Monday.
A cordon had been put in place and several homes and businesses were evacuated as a precaution, the force said.
The device was later taken to a safe location and destroyed.
People have since been allowed to return to their properties.
Car seized
Police said the car involved had also been seized for examination.
The force added: "Thank you to members of the public, residents and business owners for your patience while we dealt with this incident."
The detonation followed the discovery of two unexploded bombs, also found in Bootle.
An unexploded World War Two bomb was discovered at a site on North Atlantic Avenue on Tuesday, 22 October, with another device discovered on the same street on Thursday, 24 October.
