A consultant anaesthetist has been appointed the deputy chairwoman of Guernsey's Medical Specialist Group (MSG).
The organisation which provides emergency and elective specialist medical services for the Bailiwick said Michelle Le Cheminant would work alongside MSG's chairman Dr Steve Evans.
MSG said as part of a "succession plan", it is expected Dr Le Cheminant would eventually take over as chairwoman, which would make her the group's first female leader.
Guernsey-born Ms Le Cheminant said she was "absolutely committed" to ensured the MSG adapts over the coming years to meet the demands of serving an aging population in the Bailiwick.
"It's a challenging time in healthcare but I think we have the right team and the motivation to meet these challenges," said Dr Le Cheminant, a former pupil of Castel Primary School and Ladies’ College.
Dr Evans said Dr Le Cheminant was a "valuable member" of the management board at MSG.
He added: "I have no doubt that she will do a great job in this new role as we focus on delivering outstanding patient-centred services to improve the health of our island community."
