New booking system to come in at recycling centres

The new online booking will start in the autumn, with Weston-super-Mare the first centre to role it out in North Somerset

A new online booking system is being introduced at a council's recycling centres in a bid to reduce waste, improve services, and respond to the climate emergency.
North Somerset Council said the changes are being brought in this autumn, with Weston-super-Mare the first to introduce the scheme, followed by Backwell and Portishead.
"By introducing a simple, quick online booking system, we can reduce queues, make visits easier, and ensure our sites are working as efficiently as possible for everyone," councillor Annemieke Waite said.
The council said it will also see a reduction in non-residents using the facility, simplify vehicle permits and manage commercial and DIY waste.
The council said the change is part of wider efforts to improve services and support its waste strategy and climate emergency plan.
Ms Waite, the authority's cabinet member for planning and environment, said: "Essential repairs are needed at Weston-super-Mare's recycling centre later this year, so having a booking system in place will also help to manage the site safely and keep queues to a minimum during this period."
The change also brings North Somerset in line with neighbouring authorities, who all have successful and well-liked booking systems in place, she added.
The council recently moved to three-weekly black bin rubbish collections to encourage recycling and cut costs.
Updates on the service will be available online.
