Air accident investigators are beginning their probe into a plane crash in Fife which killed a 50-year-old pilot.

The man died after his light aircraft ditched into a field near Fife Airport at about 11:30 on Monday.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said a team of inspectors would visit the site to gather evidence as part of a safety investigation.

Police Scotland said no-one else was injured in the crash and inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

A rescue helicopter was sent to the crash site as well as specialist units from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also attended the scene on Monday.

Fife Airport, near Kinglassie, is a small airfield used by local flying clubs.
