Fireworks led to 'lost and distressed' animals
- Published
An animal welfare charity has said fireworks in Guernsey this year have led to "lost and distressed" animals.
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) said there had been "more private firework events over a longer period of time than in some years".
Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said: "This year we have been involved with and heard of a number of instances that have led to lost and distressed animals, owners and public due to the number of events."
The GSPCA and Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets are asking islanders for their views on fireworks and their effect on animals.
Mr Byrne said: "Thankfully, as yet, we haven’t seen any wildlife injured needing rescuing and our care due to fireworks this month."
He said the States of Guernsey register and alert page, external for fireworks had "certainly helped islanders know in advance when events and where they take place".
