A student paramedic has said she will never forget the day she helped to deliver her lecturer's baby, as she was reunited with the family for the first time since the birth.

Elise Faragher was on a work placement at Worcestershire Royal Hospital three months ago when her lecturer Aaron Collins and wife Lexy walked in to have an elective C-section.

The third-year University of Worcester student said she was surprised to see Mr Collins walk into the hospital, until she saw his pregnant wife Lexy.

"I was shocked to begin with but as soon as I saw Lexy, it was a little bit less of a shock," she told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Mr Collins had taught Elise anatomy, physiology, and all about what happens during childbirth.

So Ms Faragher asked staff at the hospital if she could take part in helping to deliver the couple's baby Luca.

Speaking as she met back up with the family at the university's medical school, Ms Faragher said: "It was lovely to be there for them as a bit of a familiar face."

Asked if it was a day she would never forget, she said: "Definitely."

Mr Collins said he remembered walking into the hospital and seeing the staff all in scrubs, before hearing Ms Faragher say "hello Aaron".

He described it as a "good surprise" and said it was good for Ms Faragher to be there to see how a C-section was carried out.

"She did an amazing job," he added.

Mrs Collins, who is a nurse, said Luca was doing well, describing him as the "perfect baby", though she wished he would sleep through the night.

Of Ms Faragher's role in his birth, she said: "I understand how students need the exposure. It's really nice that it was one of Aaron's students and that Elise got to be there when Luca was born."
