An exhibition showcasing the compelling footwork of football legend Zinédine Zidane has seen more than 20,000 fans flocking in.

A film that focuses on the playing style of the French star has also been shown as part of the exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

Fans were drawn in to watch the 90 minute immersive experience, which is alongside Football: Designing the Beautiful Game exhibition.

The gallery showed screenings of the 2006 film, "Zidane, a 21st century portrait", between June and October.

The film follows the French star in real time over the course of 90 minutes, as Real Madrid played Villareal, on 23 April 2005.

'Extremely well received'

The use of 17 synchronised cameras, enabled the film to focus on all aspects of his playing style, the gallery said.

Directed by Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno, the film captured the star from multiple angles, remaining fixed on him even when the action moves elsewhere.

The exhibition also had memorabilia from some of football's other greatest players, including Pelé and Lionel Messi.

Ian Fegan, director of city economy and partnerships, said: "After kicking off the season with a world class exhibition, it was wonderful that during the half time programme we were able to introduce Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

"The exhibition has been extremely well received and over 20,000 fans and visitors have visited the gallery."
