Driver charged after pedestrian and dog killed in crash

A man has been charged in connection with the death of a pedestrian struck by a car in Midlothian last year.

The 88-year-old was walking his dog on Nivensknowe Road in Loanhead on the morning of 19 December when he was hit by the Honda Civic.

He died in hospital four days later, while his dog was also killed in the crash.

The 51-year-old driver of the car has been charged in connection with a road traffic offence.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.
