The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds

The Severn Bridge has reopened after it was closed all day due to high winds.

The M48 had been closed to traffic for most of the day between junction 2 of the A466 for the Wye Valley Link Road, Chepstow, and junction 1 of the A403 for Aust.

Traffic was instead being diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

Large areas of England, Wales and Northern Ireland are still being covered by a yellow weather warning for strong winds.

The Met Office had warned, external high winds may cause "some disruption", with delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

It comes two weeks after a driver ignored signs saying the bridge was shut - also due to high winds - and ended up crashing into the central reservation.
