Change to speed limit proposed after fatal crash

An extension of the 30mph speed limit was one of the safety measures requested

Proposals have been made to change the speed limit along part of a busy stretch of road in Plymouth after a fatal crash two years ago.
Changes to the speed limit along part of the A374 Embankment Road which is currently 40mph have been made by Plymouth City Council.
Under the proposed order, the existing 30mph speed limit along the western section of Embankment Road would be extended by around 800m (2624ft) on both sides.
At an inquest into the death of a driver on the road last year, the coroner raised concerns about trees nearby, which were removed in February.
The speed limit currently starts and ends just north-east of Stanley Place, but would be extended to the Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club.
It is hoped the measures, which also include the removal of some of the trees along the road, will improve safety for pedestrians and all road users.
The order has been advertised on the council website and if approved, is expected to be implemented towards the end of the year.
The deadline for comments is 17 September.
