Motorists are being warned of overnight road restrictions on the A52 in Nottinghamshire for flood investigation work.

One lane will be closed as the work is carried out between the Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft roundabouts for nine nights over a two-week period from Monday.

In January, heavy rainfall caused flooding and closed the road eastbound between the A60 at Ruddington and the A606.

National Highways said engineers will carry out a survey of the pipework to identify any underground defects or blockages on the 1.1km (0.7 miles) stretch, including slip roads, up until 17 November.

'Prevent future issues'

Heavy rainfall on 6 January strained local drainage systems and caused water to accumulate on the road.

National Highways said an initial investigation at the time concluded there were no obvious causes for the flooding and a survey of the road was commissioned.

From Monday, one lane will close for five days from 20:00 to 06:00 GMT. The same will happen from 10 to 12 November and again on 17 November.

The carriageway will remain open during the day and weekends.

National Highways said: "These surveys are required to further assess whether there are any underground defects that may be contributing to flooding on the A52 between the Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft roundabouts.

"During the overnight lane closures, if any issues are identified such as obstructions in the drains or blockages then they will be cleared.

"Further works may also be required if a larger issue is identified.

"By assessing and addressing the areas now we hope to help prevent any future issues."
