Footbridge closed for six weeks as repairs begin

The footbridge at Woodbridge station will be closed off for repair works

A railway station footbridge has been closed for more than six weeks for repair works.

Woodbridge station's footbridge is closed until 24 December as Greater Anglia strengthens the steelwork, paints, and installs new handrails with integrated lighting.

Passengers have been warned to allow extra time for their journeys and a diversion route via the level crossing is in place for those moving between platform one and two.

Andrew Goodrum, infrastructure and major projects director at Greater Anglia, said the work would "significantly improve safety".

Greater Anglia said the adjoining Network Rail footbridge, that runs over the entirety of the station, would remain open for most of the project, but there would be some weekend closures to accommodate "specific construction activities".

The dates are:

• 14 to 17 November

• 21 to 24 November

• 28 November to 1 December

• 5 to 8 December

Those closures will be in place from 22:00 GMT on the Fridays until 06:00 on Mondays.

"The refurbishment of Woodbridge station footbridge will significantly improve safety and enhance the station environment," Mr Goodrum explained.
