Workers will strike on 22 September, Unite says

Factory workers are set to take industrial action later this month over a pay dispute.

Unite the Union said about 250 workers at James Walker in Cockermouth, Cumbria, would strike on 22 September for 24 hours.

Unite regional officer Ryan Armstrong said the action was "entirely the fault" of the firm, which produces sealing products for industry, and that there was still time to stop the strikes.

James Walker said it strived to look after its employees and took the strike action seriously. It said it remained open to consultation with Unite.

The industrial action followed workers rejecting a pay offer of 3%, Unite said.

General secretary Sharon Graham said: "James Walker is putting profits before people and Unite will not allow it."

The union also said there would be a continuous ban on overtime from 19 September.
