Towns and cities across the north-west of England will host services to remember the courage of those who served in the armed forces and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Events to mark Remembrance Sunday are observed on the closest Sunday to Armistice Day.

Here are some of the services and parades taking place in the region.

Merseyside

Liverpool: The Band of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and The Pipes and Drums of The Liverpool Scottish Regimental Association will play from 10:40 GMT in the run-up, external to the start of the service at St George's Hall.

St Helens: Several Remembrance Sunday services will be held across the borough. More information can be found here. , external

Wirral: The Mayor of Wirral councillor Brian Kenny will lead the service,, external which starts at 10:55 at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. More details on other services in Wirral can be found here. , external

Knowsley: Services will be held in Huyton, Prescot and Kirkby. You can find the details here. , external

Cheshire

Warrington: The parade will set off from the Town Hall, external to the Cenotaph at 09:45 via Springfield Street, Palmyra Square South, Suez Street, Ryland Street, Bridge Street. The service will begin at 10:59 with the sounding of the Last Post.

Widnes: The service will be held at the War Memorial, Victoria Park., external The parade will set off from Esposito's café by the bandstand at 10:45 to arrive at the War Memorial for 10:50.

Runcorn: The parade will set off from St. Michael's Church,, external Greenway Road, at 14:45 prompt to arrive at the Cenotaph for 15:00 at the Cenotaph on Greenway Road.

Chester: The parade will reach Chester Cathedral, external for a Service of Remembrance at 10:15.

Northwich: Parade to depart from Sheath Street, external at 09:40 for a service at St Helens Church. The congregation will then make their way to the Cenotaph via Church Road.

Ellesmere Port: Several parades and services will be held across Ellesmere Port. More information can be found here., external

Services are due to take place across the country on Remembrance Sunday

Greater Manchester

Manchester: Veterans, military personnel and cadets, led by the Greater Manchester Police's Band, will march from John Dalton Street, external to the Cenotaph in St Peter's Square, where a service will be held at 11:00.

Wigan: The procession will leave the Town Hall on Library Street at 10:30 and head to the War Memorial in All Saints' Gardens, external for a service. The procession will then proceed into the Parish Church.

Bolton: A service and march past will take place in Victoria Square,, external beginning at 10:56.

Bury: The parade will leave Knowsley Street at 10:30 and head to the War Memorial outside Bury Parish Church for the service. More information of other services in the borough here. , external

Oldham: The parade will assemble at New Radcliffe Street at 10:20 and proceed to the War Memorial opposite the Old Town Hall at 10:30. More details for other services in the borough here., external

Stockport: A procession of service units, ex-servicemen's, civilian and youth organisations from the Armoury to the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, external will start at 10:25. A civic procession from Stockport Town Hall to the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will begin at 10:45 followed by a two-minute silence and civic act of remembrance at 11:00.

Salford: The parade will depart from the A6 outside the Old Pint Pot Pub at 10:25 before a service at the Cenotaph on Albert Bentley Place, The Crescent at 10:45. Further information on other services here. , external

Trafford: Events will be held in towns and villages across the borough,, external including parades in Sale, Stretford, Urmston and Hale, and services in Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale Barns and Partington.

Lancashire

South Ribble: The parade will start at 10:30 followed by a short service at the Cenotaph and a later service at St Mary's Church in Leyland., external

Preston: Remembrance Sunday events will run from 11:00 to 13:00, external at the Cenotaph at the Flag Market.

Blackpool: The service will begin at 10:55, external at the war memorial on the Promenade., featuring the two minutes' silence, a service of remembrance, and a wreath-laying ceremony followed by a short parade at about 11:45.

Burnley: The parade will set off from Curzon Street, external at 10:20, making its way through St James' Street and Parker Lane before arriving at the Peace Gardens outside Burnley Library for the service at 10:50.

Chorley: The parade will set off from St Thomas's Road, external and will make it way directly to the Cenotaph in Astley Park via Market Street and Park Road for the service at 10:45.

Fylde: Services will be held in, external St Annes, Lytham, Kirkham and Wesham.

Pendle: A number of services are planned, external across Pendle including in Barnoldswick, Colne and Nelson.

West Lancashire: Services will be held in, external Ormskirk, Aughton, Burscough, Halsall, Lathom, Skelmersdale and Up Holland.

Hyndburn: Several events will be taking place around the borough, external to mark this year's Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
