The body of a man has been found after a fire in a residential building in Cornwall, police have said.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service crews were called out to the blaze at Narrowcliff in Newquay at about 16:35 BST on Tuesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the body of a man in his 30s was found inside the property.

The force said an investigation was ongoing and the death was being treated as unexplained, but officers were "keeping an open mind".

"Inquiries are ongoing and a police cordon remains in place at the scene," a spokesperson for the force said.

The fire happened in a building located between the former Narrowcliff Hotel and the former Hotel Bristol near Tolcarne beach.

Firefighters remained at the scene into the evening as they battled the flames and dampened hot spots.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
