A Liverpool woman says a video she filmed of people dancing and singing during a downpour in the city shows "you can't dampen a Scouser's spirit".

Amanda Grant said she was so glad to experience the "magical moment" with her three children Molly-Mae, 21, Tallulah, six, and Cairo, five.

The family went to see the River of Light installation and were pleased to see a dry evening was forecast when they set off from their home in Woolton on Wednesday.

But when the weather turned and it began pouring down they were ready to head home until they saw a crowd of people dancing and singing on the Pier Head.

They headed over to see what was going on and joined in with the revelry beneath the shelter of a canopy, with some of this was captured by beautician Amanda in a video shared on social media.

The video, captioned "when it lashes down at the River of Lights, Liverpool does its thing", shows a crowd of people of different ages singing and dancing to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.

"We were moaning one minute and then the next minute we were dancing and singing and I thought, that's Liverpool," said the 44-year-old.

She said: "Everyone was so happy and it was a really lovely moment with the kids that I'll remember forever.

"I absolutely love our city. You can't dampen a Scouser's spirit - we make the best of a situation."
