Kerbside garden waste trial put on hold

Plans to trial a dedicated kerbside garden waste collection service in Guernsey have been put on hold.
The States of Guernsey said it was planning to stage a trial during the summer after speaking to residents and potential providers about an opt-in, paid-for service.
However, other work - such as the development of the household green waste site at Mont Cuet - has been prioritised, the States said.
It did not comment on whether the trial would be run at a later date, but added local firms provided options for people who wanted to have their garden waste collected.
Home composting campaign
The site at Mont Cuet opened on 3 April following the closure of the facility previously at Chouet to allow for quarrying on the headland there.
The centre is open from 10:00-18:00 BST on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10:00-16:00 on weekends and bank holidays.
Sarah Robinson, Guernsey Waste operations manager, said islanders were being encouraged to compost as much as they can at home.
"That saves them the trouble of having to drop it off somewhere or have it collected," she said.
Ms Robinson added a home composting awareness campaign is being run over the next two weeks.
