Police are appealing for information after a 18-year-old man was last seen in the water off Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called at about 23:10 GMT on 18 March to reports of concern for the welfare of a man near Tinside Lido on the city's seafront.

The force has named the man as Michael Oppong Yeboah, who officers said did not return to land.

Specialist teams from the police and coastguards have searched the area but had been unable to locate him, police said.

Officers said Mr Yeboah's next of kin had been informed and they were supporting his family.

Det Con Adam Fitzpatrick, investigating the incident, said inquires were ongoing.

He said: “From our enquiries, we know that a group of people have spent the evening together before going down to the shoreline for a swim.

“The rest of the group returned to land but Michael did not.

"Specialist search and dive teams have searched the area but have not located him."

Three RNLI lifeboats, a coastguard helicopter and police dive teams were involved with the search.

Det Con Fitzpatrick added: “I’m keen to hear from anyone who saw a group of people in the area of the shoreline next to Tinside Lido."
