Police said two people were arrested after the attack

An attack in a residential street left a man seriously injured in hospital.

The incident happened on Panfield Road in the Wythenshawe estate in Manchester at about 19:15 BST on Sunday.

The street was sealed off by police and a man, 33, and a woman, 42, were arrested.

Greater Manchester Police said the 54-year-old man has been taken to hospital and that the man and woman were arrested on suspicion of a Section 18 assault.

A spokesman said the investigation was continuing.
