Two sisters who played a "pivotal role" in helping their brother escape from the UK after he and two others shot dead a teenage boxer have been jailed for four years.

Husna Khan, 29, and Farah Khan, 28, booked hotels, a Channel Tunnel crossing, and a hire car for Khayam Khurshid after he, Mohammed Khan and Kamran Mohammed killed 18-year-old Cole Kershaw in Bury in 2020.

Khurshid was arrested by Dutch police in Amsterdam after trying to board a flight to Pakistan.

The Khan sisters were found guilty of assisting an offender and were sentenced to two years and six months in jail at Manchester Crown Court.

The three attackers, Khurshid, Khan and Mohammed, had pursued Mr Kershaw in a car chase after a dispute.

They shot him with in the chest with a pistol as he and his friends got out of their vehicle and ran in an attempt to escape.

A manhunt ensued, with the trio from Bury eventually all arrested, found guilty, and given life sentences.

An investigation by Greater Manchester Police found Khursid's two sisters had helped him flee the country and evade police.

The court heard they helped plan his escape, and travelled from Calais to Belgium with Khurshid, who had booked a one-way flight to Pakistan.

But the 32-year-old had forgotten to take a coronavirus test, which meant he was unable to board.

He was arrested later in Amsterdam by Dutch police.

The two sisters claimed they had been planning to go on holiday when Greater Manchester Police questioned them about the bookings.

Det Insp Marc Barker said everyone involved in the "cowardly attack" was in jail following an "extensive investigation".

“It has been just over four years since the fatal attack, and our goal has always been to provide answers and some sense of justice for Cole’s family and friends," he added.
