Two construction companies are facing prosecution for health and safety offences after an employee was seriously injured at the Hinkley Point C construction site in Somerset.

The accident happened on 22 August 2022 when a wall of rebar mesh, a metal lattice used to support structures, fell on the man as he was working in a pre-fabrication yard at the site near Bridgwater.

Contractors Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and Laing O'Rourke Delivery Limited each face a single charge of failing to plan, manage and monitor construction work without risks to health and safety.

A spokesperson from Bylor, a joint venture between the two contractors, said it is "cooperating fully" with the regulator.

The decision to begin legal proceedings follows an investigation by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the UK's independent nuclear regulator.

A location and date for the first court hearing is yet to be announced.
