A couple set to celebrate their 73rd wedding anniversary have been described by their family as "our king and queen".

Bob and Pat Page, who live in Coventry, got married on 6 September 1952 after meeting at work.

Their granddaughter Holly Page said she believed the pair may hold the record for being the "longest alive married couple in Coventry".

"They're our king and queen, we love them to bits, they're amazing," she said. "They just love each other so much."

She added: "Granddad writes Christmas cards and birthday cards and [in them] he'll write 'to the only woman I've ever loved'."

The couple, who are just two years away from their Diamond wedding anniversary, met when working at BSA bicycles in Birmingham, and courted for six months before getting engaged and married.

"She stole my heart, and she still has," Mr Page, 96, explained.

"I didn't bother with girls. I liked cycling," he said.

Mr Page has dementia and is cared for by his wife, 93, who said she was his "first girlfriend".

"He was very handsome," she said of her husband.

"He was a cyclist, he had blonde wavy hair, he was so good looking."

Speaking to BBC CWR, the pair advised other couples hoping for a long marriage to be "tolerant" and "patient" with each other.

"Just get through things. You just stick together and work together and that way you get through it," Mrs Page said.

"Don't expect too much of one another."
