A man has been seriously injured in a "nasty" stabbing attack involving seven young men, police have said.
Merseyside Police said officers were called to reports of a man being assaulted on Church Street in Liverpool at about 20:55 BST on Thursday.
The 21-year-old victim was taken to hospital with knife wounds.
Ch Insp Tom Welch said knife crime had "no place on our streets" as he appealed for witnesses and information.
“We need the public’s help in coming forward and telling us what they know," he said.
The force is carrying out CCTV inquiries in the area
He said detectives remained "relentless" in their pursuit of the removal of any dangerous weapons from the streets.
Ch Insp Welch asked people with information about the attack or any knives being stored or moved around to contact the force "as a matter of urgency".
“What you tell us may lead to other weapons being removed from circulation, and those communities becoming stronger, safer and secure," he added.
