A man has been arrested after a crash involving a BMW that was being pursued by police on the M1.
Leicestershire Police said the collision occurred on Tuesday near junction 20 and involved a vehicle that "was being pursued by Northamptonshire Police after it failed to stop for officers".
The BMW hit a Ford Mondeo and a Mercedes lorry, a force spokesman said, before it left the carriageway and hit a tree.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, disqualified driving and no insurance, and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Leicestershire Police said the BMW driver was taken to hospital for treatment, but added his injuries "are not believed to be serious".
Northamptonshire Police confirmed it had made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct "due to this prior police contact".
A spokesperson added: "As the Leicestershire Police investigation into this incident is ongoing, we cannot comment further at this time."
