Boy, 16, in hospital after being stabbed in chest

Police were called to reports of two males fighting with knives

A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed in the chest and arm in a fight on a Merseyside street.

Officers were called to New Hutte Lane, in Halewood, at about 17:50 BST on Tuesday after reports of two males fighting with knives.

The boy is in a stable condition in hospital and an investigation is under way, Merseyside Police said.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries and CCTV footage is being checked.

"Inquiries are under way to establish the circumstances around this incident," Det Insp Graeme Kehoe said.

"Incidents like this can sadly prove fatal and I would urge parents and guardians to warn children and young people of the dangers of arming themselves with knives or other weapons.

"Tackling knife crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police and we will take robust action against anyone found to be in possession of a knife."
