The main route between the Isle of Man's capital and the north has reopened after being closed for several hours for the removal of race equipment and signage.

Part of the A18 Mountain Road, from Ramsey to the Bungalow, was shut as part of a planned works programme.

While plans were in place for the section of the road to also be closed on Monday, that did not go ahead due to poor visibility.

Contractors have removed safety barriers, hay bales, signage, portable toilets, marshals' shelters and equipment boxes put in place for the Manx Grand Prix.

The Department of Infrastructure had said that while the closure was "primarily to remove race equipment safely", the opportunity would be taken to clear gullies and undertake maintenance of the tram crossings.

The closure also allowed Manx Telecom to install communication cables, the department said.

It also confirmed the earmarked contingency dates of the 16 and 17 September would not be needed as the works had been completed.

A second closure, between Tholt-y-Will Road to Creg ny Baa, is set to take place on 9 and 10 September for the continuation of the two-phase works, with 23 and 24 September also available if needed.
