A family has said they have been left with a "huge gaping hole" in their lives after a man died in a crash in Stoke-on-Trent.

Daniel McLellan, 44, was driving a Dacia Sandero on Leek Road, Hanley, at 07:00 GMT on 9 December when it was in collision with a Vauxhall Crossland.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police said the driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 30s, remained in hospital with leg injuries.

In a tribute, Mr McLellan’s family said: "Our family has a huge gaping hole in it. Dan was such a kind man who loved his family without measure.

"He had a wicked sense of humour. Every day was filled with laughter and pranks. Now our home is silent."

They thanked a passer-by, who stopped to help after the crash, as well as the emergency services for trying to save Mr McLellan, who lived locally.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that the collision was not being treated as a criminal matter and urged any witnesses to get in touch.
