A car park and drop-off zone is being created opposite a school in North East Lincolnshire which has seen a number of crashes.

Station Road, outside Waltham Toll Bar Academy, in New Waltham, had five collisions in the last five years, a council report said.

The report added that verge parking had caused “widespread damage”.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, parking will be restricted along the road once the new facility opens.

The car park and drop-off facility were a planning requirement for the adjacent Wigmore Park housing development.

Developers agreed, in 2020, to pay £515,000 toward highway works.

A North East Lincolnshire Council report said there had been issues with parking along the road linked to school drop-off and pick-up times.

"There have been one serious and four slight reported personal injury collisions on Station Road over the last five years," the report said.

Previously the council had used barriers and patrols to try and deal with the problem.

The new car park will hold 54 vehicles and cost £1.50 for an hour's parking.

During the morning and afternoon school run the drop-off zone will provide free parking.

It is expected to open in November.
