A man has been charged with death by dangerous driving after a 46-year-old woman was killed in a crash in Wakefield.

Louise Hargill was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa being driven on Clifton Avenue, Horbury, at about 22:15 BST on Saturday, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Ms Hargill received medical attention at the scene but died a short time later, a force spokesperson said.

Karl Cockerill, 42, of Upper Lane in Netherton, who was arrested on Monday in connection with the incident, had been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court later, the spokesperson said.

Anyone with any information about the crash, or who saw what happened, was asked to get in touch, they added.
