A man accused of the attempted murder of a nurse who was stabbed with scissors at a hospital will go on trial in July.

Romon Haque, 37, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared via video-link from HMP Manchester for a brief hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court earlier.

The defendant, of Yasmin Gardens, Royton, in Oldham, is accused of the attempted murder of Achamma Cherian, a nurse in her 50s, who was seriously injured at the Royal Oldham Hospital on 11 January.

Mr Haque is also charged with the possession of a bladed article - a pair of scissors - in a public place.

No pleas were entered and a further pre-trial hearing was scheduled for 10 April.

Judge Maurice Greene remanded Mr Haque into custody until his trial, scheduled for 14 July.
